Ubitransport acquires ACTOLL
to become a market leader in smart mobility
5 April 2022, Ubitransport acquires ACTOLL. The merger of these two major players will create a leader in smart mobility, offering connected ticketing and payment solutions that are capable of addressing the needs of all cities and regions.
The creation of a French leader that combines digitalisation, innovation and interoperability.
As part of the convergence of mobility actors and the acceleration of innovation, Ubitransport and ACTOLL are joining forces to promote inclusive and sustainable mobility. The newly formed group now employs 200 people and equips 210 transport networks.
Clients will continue to benefit from the solutions and services of the two companies, and all jobs, sites and activities will be maintained for the time being.
Together, the two companies will develop new solutions. They will work to enrich the offering to customers, local authorities and operators, and to provide an extended range of products and equipment.
The solutions will be based on global mobility offerings, covering functions such as the sale (including reservation), validation and control of tickets using the technologies expected on the market : Account Based Ticketing (ABT), ticket interoperability in Card-Based Ticketing (CBT), on-board EMV electronic payments, a MaaS API library, etc.
A common vision
Ubitransport and ACTOLL have both decided to promote connected solutions, accessible to all types of networks and territories and move away from complex ticketing solutions. With the aim of optimising and simplifying user journeys, the two companies support transport players in their efforts to improve efficiency, quality of service and social and environmental responsibility.
Complementarity based on distinct know-how
Created in 2012, Ubitransport launched the first real-time connected ticketing system. In 10 years, the scale-up has become the No. 1 French provider of Account-Based Ticketing (ABT) solutions. The company covers 170 urban, intercity and school transport networks in France, overseas territories and Canada. Ubitransport’s clients include 8 out of 13 regions in mainland France and numerous communities of towns and municipalities.
Created in 1996, ACTOLL develops information systems and associated services in the fields of public transport, motorway tolls and electronic payment. It is the leader in solutions for contactless validator payments (“Retail Mode open payment”). ACTOLL equips 40 networks (Metropolitan France and Overseas) including those of Brest, Nevers, Arcachon, St-Denis de la Réunion, and in particular, the “Papang” cable car network. Since its creation, the company has supplied its motorway payment solutions to major French players: Vinci Autoroutes, Département de la Charente-Maritime, Société d’Exploitation du Boulevard Périphérique Nord de Lyon, Société Marseillaise du Tunnel Prado Carénage, etc. More recently, the company has developed a solution for contactless donation payments.
A global, sustainable and inclusive player in mobility
Ubitransport completed its first fundraising in 2019 to help structure the company, expand internationally and undertake external growth initiatives. Following the acquisition of Billettique Services in 2019 and Ceccli in 2020, ACTOLL represents an important step in positioning the group as a global, sustainable and inclusive player in mobility. In 2022, Ubitransport was included in the FW500 and French Tech 120 rankings, underlining the company’s ambitions to become a world class technology leader.
This acquisition expands Ubitransport’s capabilities in transit and shared mobility transactions, including fare distribution, validation and inspection. At the same time, it introduces additional services for the international market, such as transit equipment, motorway toll solutions and charity donation payments.
“Together with ACTOLL, the teams at Ubitransport are very proud to offer a strengthened and differentiated offer in a rapidly changing sector, adapted to the needs of all cities and territories and responding to today’s challenges of dematerialisation and Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS).” Jean-Paul Medioni, Founder and CEO of Ubitransport.
“We join the Ubitransport adventure with great motivation and desire because we are aware of the potential that our two companies can have together. We are looking forward to bringing our expertise in payment solutions and ticketing devices to Ubitransport. This new step is a great development opportunity for our teams and our clients.” Liborio Panzarella, President of ACTOLL
